Rickard Näslin

Riksspelman Master Player of Swedish Folk Music

Rickard Näslin born and bred in Östersund .. 
 

• was one of the founders of the Jamtlandic folk music group Leikstulaget in 1974. 

• became Riksspelman 1978.(Master Player of Swedish Folk Music 1978) 

• has over the years participated in the recording of a dozen or so gramophone records and has published five books of sheet music with fiddle-tunes from Jämtland. (Lapp-Nilspolska for 2 violins)

• started in 1993 the Östersunds Spelmanslag (Fiddle Company of Ostersund)  and since then has been their leader. During the years he has received many prizes and honours for his contributions to Jamtlandic folk music and in 1998 he was awarded the Lapp-Nils medal which is the Heimbydas Spelmans associations highest honour. 

• is teacher at Birka Folkhogskola, Jämtland, Sweden
  (Folkhogsskola is a Residential College in Adult Education following the educational philosophy of the Danish Clergyman and Philosopher Grundtvig)
